Columbia, S.C., facility certified ISO 14001

Schneider Electric’s Columbia, S.C., facility, which manufactures electrical switchboards, switchgear, motor starters and crane controls, has been certified to ISO 14001 environmental management standards. «The process took nine months in all,» said plant manager Keith Hudgins. «We encouraged all of our 650 employees, along with contractors and suppliers, to take a personal role in the program, and I would like to thank all of them for their input.»
Columbia is the third Schneider Electric plant in the US to earn ISO 14001 certification, following Oxford, Ohio, and Boston, Massachusetts.

Today, two-thirds of Schneider Electric’s production facilities have received ISO 14001 certification. Six plants were certified when the standard was issued in 1996:
    > Le Vaudreuil and Libourne in France.
    > Marienheide in Germany.
    > Valencia in Spain.
    > Telford in the UK.
    > Oxford in the US.

Schneider Electric is pursuing certification worldwide, and notably in the US, where all of its plants have an environmental management system and will be certified to ISO 14001 standards in 2000-2001.
