A business interest grouping called IDEA to invent the electrical distribution system of the future

EDF, Schneider Electric and INPG (Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble) announced the creation of « IDEA » a GIE business interest grouping whose aim is to « Invent the Electrical Distribution System of the Future. »

These 3 partners have decided to pool resources in order to invent innovative solutions in the field of electrical energy distribution systems, in light of the arrival of new technologies in the areas of :
    > the generation of distributed electricity (wind power today, gas micro-turbines tomorrow and fuel cells after tomorrow)
    > stocking electrical energy (flywheels, super-capacitors, etc), at the same time, taking into account progress made in power electronics and IT.

Research in this field aims to anticipate significant changes in electrical distribution networks. These networks are likely to evolve because of a decentralized electrical system added on an essential traditional centralized network structure.

This evolution will be amplified with the growing need for Secured Power Supply and, in specific countries like USA, with the global Energy crisis cause by a steady under investment in Energy infrastructures (both electrical and petrochemical ones).
IDEA, which will be based at LEG (Laboratoire d’Electrotechnique de Grenoble) will reinforce various industrial and technological initiatives under way in the Rhône Alpe region of France, which has become one of the forerunners in the New Electrical Energy Technologies sector in Europe.
