Meccanica Finnord chooses Transparent Factory
Italy’s Meccanica Finnord, one of the world’s leading automotive equipment manufacturers, has selected Schneider Electric’s integrated "Transparent Factory" solution to meet the quality and safety requirements of the global automobile industry. The subcontractor was looking for an efficient, open automation solution that would allow it to serve increasingly demanding customers, respond immediately to changing market requirements and guarantee the quality of its output in an area where consumer safety is crucial. Meccanica Finnord has decided to turn one of its two Lombardy plants into a pilot unit using Schneider Electric’s "Transparent Factory" concept.
Developed in collaboration with Italian subsidiary Schneider Electric S.p.A., the project entailed introducing a new operating system that could collect data throughout the factory without changing the automation systems installed on the existing production lines for the time being. Schneider Electric provided turnkey engineering and recommended an architecture comprising 100 decentralized Momentum PLCs connected to two Monitor Pro supervisors via Ethernet TCP/IP. Operators will also be able to enter data manually on Magelis HMI terminals.
