    Schneider's innovation and expertise highlighted at Hannover '98 in Germany

    The recent Hannover Fair in Germany was once again a big success for Schneider, with more than 30,000 people visiting our booth. For some visitors, the Fair was a first contact, while for our regular customers, it provided an opportunity to discover new products and innovations for 1998.

    One new feature this year was the emphasis on applications rather than products. The corporate advertising campaign, with its prestigious roster of international projects, was used to showcase products and solutions. This presentation got high marks from visitors.

    Innovation and expertise were the principal themes at the Fair, where we presented more than 40 new products. In electrical distribution, we displayed the new Merlin Gerin Multi 9 NG125 circuit breaker, while in industrial control, we showed several new Telemecanique products including the renowned Magelis 98 HMI terminal and the new Altivar 58 speed drive. In the area of automation, the Modicon/Telemecanique Premium automation platform and Momentum I/O were particularly popular with the public.

    The Company highlighted the construction segment this year and its expertise in building management services, including remote monitoring, fieldbuses and networks, and security. Two facades measuring more than seven meters high were built with several levels representing different activities (restaurant, hypermarket, apartment, etc.).

    But innovation means more than just products. The public also discovered organizational innovations at the Fair, notably in the area of customer services. A Schneider booth dedicated to sensors in Hall 14, alongside other world leaders in this specialized field, received a large number of visitors. In another effort to address specific requirements, Schneider software was included in the booths of partners presenting concepts and networks like Profibus and Interbus.

    The most important innovation, however, concerned international customer relations. A special welcome desk, where receptionists and sales staff spoke a total of 80 languages, provided valuable assistance to visitors from around the world eager to better understand the solutions and services that Schneider can provide, locally or globally.
